Frequently asked questions
Does MyWalk need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login. Open the app and start walking.
Where is my data stored?
On your iPhone, in the app's own local database. MyWalk has no backend at all — there is no server we operate, so there is nowhere for your walks to be sent. See the privacy policy for full detail.
Why does MyWalk ask for location permission?
To draw your walking route and calculate distance. "Always" permission lets tracking continue when the screen is off or the app is in the background, so a walk is not cut short when you put your phone in your pocket.
You can change this any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → MyWalk.
How do I get step counts?
MyWalk reads steps from Apple Health and, as a fallback, from the device's motion sensor. If steps show as zero:
- Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → MyWalk and allow access.
- In the app, go to Settings and check the Health connection shows as connected.
My walk did not record a route properly
GPS needs a few seconds to settle at the start of a walk. MyWalk deliberately waits for a trustworthy position before drawing the route, so the map may be briefly empty right after you press Start. Wait a moment before setting off.
If a route is missing a section, it is usually tree cover or tall buildings blocking the signal. The route resumes as soon as the fix returns.
What does the route colour gradient mean?
After a walk, the route is shaded on a heat gradient — hottest at one end, fading towards the other — so a route that doubles back on itself reads clearly. You can choose which end is hottest in Settings → Route heat map. During a live walk the route stays a solid colour.
Can I export my walks?
Yes — MyWalk Pro unlocks GPX, KML and PDF export, so you can take your walks to Strava, Garmin, Google Earth, or anywhere else.
What does MyWalk Pro include?
Pro is a one-time purchase — not a subscription. It unlocks:
- Route export (GPX, KML, PDF)
- Advanced statistics — trends, personal bests, streaks
- Goals and training plans
- Waypoint notes
- "Where I've been" — everywhere you've walked, marked on a map
- Landmarks on planned routes
- Photos matched to your walk route
I bought Pro on another device — how do I restore it?
Tap Restore Purchases on the Pro screen. Pro is tied to your Apple ID, so it works on any device signed in with the same account.
How do I delete my data?
Swipe left on a walk in the History tab to delete it. Deleting the app removes all locally stored walk data. Health data the app has written can be removed via the Health app.
Is the app medical advice?
No. MyWalk is for general fitness and informational purposes. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Distance, steps, calories and other metrics are estimates. Consult a qualified professional before starting or changing an exercise programme.
